Charls Louis Napoleon d’Albert (1809 – 1886) was an instructor of dance, and a composer. He received piano instruction and composition instruction after the death of his mother. Albert wrote the libretto to the ballet-pantomime “La jolie fille de Grand,” and later gave up the stage so that he could compose. His compositions for dance include “Bridal Polka,’ “Sweetheart’s Waltz,” “Sultan’s Polka,” and the “Edinburgh Quadrille.” All of these dance pieces were very popular and he further contributed to the art of terpsichordia a book entitled “Ballroom Etiquette.”
