Ivory Chinese Immortal cane. The elephant ivory “L” handle is 1 1/2″ high and 4 1/4″ long. It depicts a finely detailed standing woman, holding a lotus blossom in one hand and a fan in the other. She is probably Ho Hsien Ku , one of the Eight Immortals of Taoism, and the only woman to achieve the Immortal status.. She is usually depicted holding a lotus blossom, a symbol for openness and wisdom. There is a 1/2″ brass collar on a dark hardwood shaft with a 1″ nicely worn brass and iron ferrule. The overall length is 36 3/4″ and was probably fashioned in England with an imported handle, ca 1890.
