Ivory Animal Chasing a Bird

C0284

Ivory fox and bird cane. The elephant ivory “L” handle is 1 2/3″ high and 3 3/4″ long. It depicts a nicely detailed bushy-tailed fox with bead eyes grasping a captured bird, perhaps a quail, in its mouth. There is a 3/4″ silver collar with a faux strap on a heavy, dark, exotic wood shaft, perhaps African black wood. The cane terminates with a 1″ replaced brass ferrule. The overall length is 36″ and the condition is very good, with an almost imperceptible tiny chip on the side of the bird’s beak. It is probably English, ca 1895.
