Prucha was a student of Hörwarter in Vienna and at the Prague Academy. Undertook numerous study trips to Hungary and Croatia. Gustav Prucha was active/lived in United States and Austria. He is known for figure, genre, landscape painting.
He studied at the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts in Prague under J. E. Horwarter. Prucha specialized in lively genre scenes and became well known for his renditions of joyous troika rides through bright winter landscapes. Prucha has also worked in America, where he adopted the pseudonym John Harway. He painted genre scenes like his teacher but especially depictions of sledding in sunny winter landscapes.
His beautiful painting entitled “Old Scholar” is unusual in that most of Prucha’s works depicted outdoor scenes including winter and snow, horses and fields. This painting depicts and old bearded scholar holding a book.
