Richard Willis (1924 -) painter of seascapes, and an ex-seaman himself. His paintings are particularly interesting for those with good historical ship knowledge, able to spot the flagship of Henry VIII (the Mary-Rose) for example.
Fine large 19th Century British & American Naval battle off a rocky coast, oil on panel by Richard Willis. Excellent historic Naval battle between fleets of the British and United States Navy, likely to be an actual account from the Revolutionary Wars or early 19th century Wars. Magnificent detail in the waters, ships and rigging even capturing the neat little figures of the crews on the ships.
